Wander slowly through our ancient landscapes. Northcliffe is a great destination to get out into nature and discover the diverse flora and wildlife that live in our forests, heathlands and coast. Immerse yourself in our tall forests on a bushwalk.
Northcliffe Forest Park
The 246ha Northcliffe Forest Park on the edge of town has beautiful forest trails from the 400m Karri Loop Trail, 3.5km Marri Meander Trail, 700m Bardi Creek Trail which is also part of the Bibbulmun Track, 1.2km Gardner River Adventure Trail for the more adventurous, and several connecting trails to provide longer loops. Dogs on leash are allowed on roads and firebreaks through the Forest Park, and the Northcliffe Recreation Ground is the designated dog exercise area. https://trailswa.com.au/trails/northcliffe-northcliffe-forest-park-walks/print
Bibbulmun Track
The iconic Bibbulmun Track (https://www.bibbulmuntrack.org.au) passes directly through Northcliffe, making the town a perfect base to start a multi-day hike to Pemberton or Walpole. Bushwalkers will enjoy the 5 km return walk through karri forest from the Boorara Tree, one of the region’s old fire lookout trees, to Lane Poole Falls which flows after heavy rain in winter and spring.
Two 4.5km trails through karri forest can be found in Shannon National Park, the Shannon Dam Walk Trail and the Campground Loop Trail. Both trails start at the Campground.
Mt Chudalup
Mt Chudalup south of Northcliffe has a 2km return walk to the summit. The trail starts in karri forest and meanders around the 187m high granite dome to the summit with beautiful 360° views and carpets of moss, lichens and wildflowers in season.
Windy Harbour
One of the best ways to experience Windy Harbour’s stunning setting is to walk the 2.8km Coastal Survivors Walk to Cathedral Beach and Pt ’Entrecasteaux. Learn about the coastal flora and fauna and their adaptations to this most demanding of environments. Allow 2 hours to walk this trail and return. At Pt D’Entrecasteaux continue along the 400m universal access Pupulong Trail and follow the spur trail to check out the natural limestone Window Lookout, or follow the beautiful 1.3km Cliff Top Walk to Tookalup Lookout. https://parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au/park/dentrecasteaux
